Enroll in a Nurse Practitioner Program and Take Charge
If you’re a registered nurse, pursuing training at a nurse practitioner (NP) school will allow you to bring an advanced level of care to your patients. Pursuing training through an NP program also gives you a vast amount of control over your nursing career.
Check out some of the many nurse practitioner programs in the United States and you’ll find that earning a nurse practitioner degree (actually, either a nurse who has earned a master’s degree or doctoral degree and who then goes on for additional nurse practitioner training) will allow you to perform many medical procedures usually only performed by physicians.
Enroll in a nurse practitioner program and you’ll receive advanced training in diagnosing and treating illness and injury. Depending on the state in which you practice, you may be able to write prescriptions.
Nurses who have completed training at a nurse practitioner school will have advanced understanding and skills in assessment, patient care practices, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.
Students who have attend NP programs also often work in rural areas and other undeserved communities where they will be found in schools, doctor’s offices, family planning clinics, rehab centers, hospices and more. In fact, in some undeserved areas where it’s a challenge to receive access to a physician, graduates of nurse practitioner programs often are the first — if not the only — point of medical treatment for patients. Work as an NP in one of these communities and you’ll be called upon to prescribe and interpret tests, care for patients with chronic illnesses, promote healthy living, perform breast and cervical screenings, and dispense nutritional advice, and much more.
If you’re the type of individual who likes to take charge, a career with a nurse practitioner degree may be perfect for you.
