Nurse Schools and Programs By City

If you’re looking for a career that pays well, is pretty much recession-proof, is challenging and helps people in very important ways, then pursuing a career as a nurse should be perfect for you. And you won’t have to travel far to earn nursing degrees — chances are there’s a top nursing school in your city, region or state.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, (BLS) employment for registered nurses (RNs) is projected to grow faster than almost any other occupation through 2014. In addition, the BLS notes that more than half of all health professions students are those who are attending nurse schools.

Some other interesting facts from the BLS:
 When it comes to hospital staff, nurses comprise the largest number.
 Nurses are the primary providers of care to patients in hospitals
 Nurse school graduates also deliver most of the country’s long-term care.

As you decide what kind of nurse school in your city to attend, you should know the difference between the different nursing degrees. You can become a registered nurse (RN) through either a four-year bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree program, a two- to three-year associate of science in nursing (ASN) degree program, or even a three-year diploma program at a hospital.

Receiving a nursing degree, even from a top nursing school, does not mean you may practice as a nurse. You first must sit for the your state’s National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, also known as the NCLEX-RN.

As the nurse school you’re researching what the NCLEX-RN pass rate is for its graduates. This rate is a good indicator of the quality of education you may receive at a top nursing school — or any school that offers nursing degrees.
